Reviews may be a bit slow for a while

While I’ve caught up on my manga reviews, I’ve fallen behind in my light novel reviews, so I’m moving my focus to those for the time being.

Not sure whether I’ll do reviews volume by volume, or as a series whole. I think I’ll decide that on a series by series basis, depending on how long it takes to read them and stuff. I’m hoping to get at least 2 reviews a week out, ideally 3.

But you know, life’s a smeg head and likes to interfere :) If you’re interested in my running thoughts on a novel I’m currently reading, follow my twitter, where I’ll be starting to post a running commentary as I go through the volumes.

OEL, Manga, Comics or Graphic Novels, which do you choose?

I was a bit surprised that this debate is still doing the rounds to be honest. IMO it’s one of those arguments you either agree with or don’t, but ultimately it’s a pointless argument.

It started with Brigid Alverson’s (of MangaBlog) post over on Publishers Weekly on Nightschool. In this post she refers to it as an OEL (as do I in my review). This seems to have upset Rivkah who seems to have both the term OEL, and more unreasonably the term manga itself.

Blog scrapers move to live journal

•March 24, 2009 • 2 Comments

I was rather surprised just now when I was looking over my blog activity. I notice a large number of visits from a couple of live journal blogs. Curiosity killed me, so I clicked to have a peek, and what I found was 3 blog scrapers.

Until now I figured all blog scrapers were using wordpress or BlogSpot, so finding them on live journal was a bit of a surprise.

There really needs to be some sort of protection that hosts such as BlogSpot, LJ and wordpress have to abide by that would put a halt to these content thieves.

Both blog spot and WP.com have a hear no evil and see no evil attitude towards scrapers. I found it very frustrating when I wrote to both parties about scrapers a while back and was ignored.

There’s nothing more frustrating or annoying as finding you’re work lifted in it’s entirety and placed somewhere else, usually with a load of porn ads around it. (Who the hell clicks those things to make them profitable anyway!!!)

Should fans always support western publishers?

This is something I’ve been tossing around my head the past few weeks, and I’m writing it out now more as a way of firming my thoughts than anything else. But feel free to chirp in with your own thoughts :D
